Article 14 – Early Retirement/Pre-Retirement Plans

  1. Greetings: I have a question regarding 14.2 Pre-retirement reduction of workload. I attended a retirement workshop in F14. It was my understanding that the employee could decide to take the workload reduction and the District had to accept it. As I read section 14.2.2, the District has to agree to the reduction; that is, if they do not agree, then the workload reduction is not granted. Could you please clarify the policy? When I read the Ed Code section 87483, it seems that the election is up to the employee only.

Also, I would like to know how banked load is handled when a faculty member is on reduced workload. Can banked load be used in the same way that it would be if working full time? If I wanted a reduced workload for three years, for example, and I have a semester of load banked, would I apply for three years of reduction and use my banked load in my last two semesters (50% for two semesters = 1 semester at full time load)? Would that satisfy the contractual agreement?

How do I apply for workload reduction? I understand the application deadline is 2/15.

Thank you for any information you can provide.
